Learning Japanese is difficult but learning Business Japanese is more difficult and those are seriously involved in this process would understand my phrase. While working with Japanese customers you need to have command not only the words and language but also need to understand their style, behavior and etiquettes. Kazumi-sensei is a phenomenal teacher and has created a wonderful 10 week course on learning practical business japanese. I had the pleasure of taking her 10 week Business Japanese Course this year as one of her students.

In 2023, I set a goal to keep up my japanese, specifically in Business Japanese I've lived in Japan for about 5 years and worked there for a few years while there. I'm very passionate about language learning as well as communication. One of the skills I wanted to improve in is in my business japanese communication skills to lead meetings on business strategy and communicate more effectively with japanese clients in the industry I'm in. This is why Kazumi-sensei's 10 week Business Japanese Course really caught my interest.

When I saw her profile on Linked In and met her for the first time, I felt nothing but positivity and encouragement right from the start. Her positive attitude and support really made a difference in our lessons. She always encourages you to learn and answers all your questions. In our first meeting, she took the time to listen to my goals in improving my business japanese and improving in my confidence in using japanese in a business setting and shared about this course with me. I was incredibly impressed by how detailed and well designed this course and the materials were. As a visual learner I find her materials very easy to understand, organized, and well structured. She takes the time to go over vocabulary and uses real life examples to engage her students in not only memorizing but learning the material.

It is hard to study online, but with the motivation, the right teacher and resources you can learn as effectively as you can from an in-person classroom! I highly recommend her course to anyone who is looking to improve in their business japanese, especially if you are living outside of Japan and find it difficult to practice japanese daily. I cannot recommend her class enough. My favorite aspect of her lessons were the phone communication and keigo lessons. I also really liked how in every class, at the beginning, we would share our answers to some questions she had us prepare for. I grew to feel more confident in speaking business japanese as well as japanese in general thanks to her lessons. Now I feel like I can navigate the japanese corporate environment with more ease and more resources at my disposal.

I spent about six years living in Japan and was able to fully immerse myself in the language and culture, However, I discovered that my exposure to "Business Japanese" was largely restricted to service jobs and lacked the daily immersion necessary to fully utilize and comprehend the nuances, grammar structures and vocabulary. My new, client-facing role at work required me to talk with stakeholders and upper management both over the phone and during online meetings, and while I fortunately don’t run into a lot of issues communicating in conversational Japanese, having to do so in a professional setting (especially over the phone) was proving to be a huge challenge for me. It was to the point where I avoided having to make phone calls all together and almost always steered conversations during client meetings to my coworkers to get by without saying a word!

 

 It was around that time I found Kazumi-sensei’s course through a mutual connection on LinkedIn.
