    My ELC Qualifications

I’m a Prospective Neurolanguage Coach so I have completed the Language Coaching Certification course but I am in the process of passing my assessment and becoming a certified Neurolanguage Coach.

    About me

I have been passionately working in educational linguistics as a teacher, trainer, and author for more than twenty years.

I am a certified Advanced Neurolanguage Coach® accredited by the International Coaching Federation, meaning I combine neuroscience and coaching techniques for a glottodidactic path sensitive to the latest neuroscientific discoveries in learning. I have my own website, howtolearnitalian.it, through which I promote my courses and activities.

I often conduct training webinars where I share some fundamental topics in contemporary teaching: multilingualism and management of classes with differentiated skills, PBL, metacognition and complex assessment, storytelling, experiential teaching, and emotional intelligence development.

For Alma Edizioni, I created "In viaggio con Sara, " a cultural video series designed to be accessible even to elementary-level. I also conceived and wrote for the same publisher "L'italiano per la cucina" and "L'italiano per l'arte, " two manuals with original stories, each accompanied by reflection and linguistic and cultural deepening activities. Additionally, I conduct various webinars and workshops as a trainer for teaching the Italian language.

As an author, I also participated in writing, in collaboration with Professor Fabio Caon and some researchers from Ca' Foscari University of Venice, one of the essays dedicated to NAI in the collection "Insegnare nel XXI secolo, " for Sanoma.

In 2023, I also collaborated with Ca' Foscari University of Venice as an official member of the register of trainers and researchers to support teaching and research for the Department of Comparative Linguistic and Cultural Studies and the Intercultural Communication and Didactics Laboratory.

I have just published my third book: "Guida per Stranieri alla Letteratura italiana. Dalle origini ai giorni nostri. Storie, autori e testi." by Alma Edizioni.

    My Testimonials and Reviews

Sara has been the perfect coach for me because she has understood my needs and has found the best way for me to achieve my own objectives. The sessions have been fun, challenging and taylor made for my way to learn italian. I had high expectations and Sara has always been a good listener, adaptative and fun coach to keep me engaged.

I had a beautiful italian journey with Sara and the Neurolanguage coaching. I have learned also a lot about my learning style thanks to Sara. We decided a plan together at the beginning so I could exactly know where and how we were going but it has also been possible to adapt it every time it has been useful.

    Thank you so much Sara!

I was looking for someone to make me feel comfortable speaking the language. For decades, I had been reading Italian (including some serious academic articles, using a dictionary), but I couldn't speak very well at all, and I had become nearly mute when I was in Italy! I wanted to feel confident that I could converse in nearly any circumstance, but especially with academic colleagues or librarians.

The experience of working with Sara was great! It was challenging, but it was also a lot of fun. We began by finding out which subjects engaged me. I think the idea was that if I was excited about the information, I would work at learning about it without noticing I was working. And I did! There were two parts to every meeting: some grammar and vocabulary, and then some discussion about a reading or video. Time flew by.

    I appreciated lots of things!

    Your good humor!
Your encouragement (when I was at my lowest, you knew to give me a pep-talk.)
The fact that you gave me helpful strategies beyond what we were doing in the sessions.
The fact that you didn't correct me constantly when I said something wrong (and sometimes later I did figure out that I had said something wrong). Instead you let me acquire confidence in "producing language."
Your flexibility in changing up some lessons to (I suspect) keep me engaged.

Finding the gem that can teach me a language when I am a language teacher with very high expectations and highly sensitive to criticism, well that is a big challenge to take on. That is why I started learning Italian on my own until I reached an advanced level. Then I met Sara on an online Neurolanguage coaching in action course. I am convinced by this approach that gives me a great sense of autonomy and adapts to my specific needs. What I asked Sara to do was to guide me in the preparation of an Italian language examination at level C1. She did it with a lot of tact and professionalism, guiding me to find optimal solutions to fill the gaps in my knowledge, offering activities that were stimulating and adapted to my learning style. If you also think that learning a language is a journey of self-discovery, I encourage you to contact Sara so that she can help you on your path. She will know how to guide you in a way that is both pleasant and effective with the assurance that you will reach your final goal. Heartfelt thanks, Sara.

I needed to take the next step with my Italian language skills, to develop and adapt them to improve my ability to be effective in my profession and business venture, and more confident in my personal life too.

Sara has the ability to appreciate and understand my situation and challenges and objectives, and is excellent at tailoring her teaching approach and content accordingly. Sara looks to understand how my own brain interprets and interacts with language and the challenge of learning new language skills, so that we can find a way to make the learning more natural, more fun and therefore more effective.

Sara has a flexible but also comprehensive approach, is open and easy to work with, and Sara also challenges me to learn and adapt new skills, helping me to achieve my own objectives. I would certainly recommend Sara to anyone in my position, looking for a great and effective coach.

I appreciate the fact neurolanguage coaching is based upon the knowledge that not everyone learns in the same way, and so whilst there needs to be some structure and variety in the learning process, neurolanguage coaching adapts to how the individual responds and learns, and seeks to help the student learn more about themselves, and their own unique learning style. With this insight there is more confidence that you can learn more easily and undertake bigger challenges.

    DANIEL SHILLITO

As an American relocating to Italy, it was very important for me to raise the level of my language skills, both to assimilate more easily into my new community and to be effective professionally. Although I am a writer working in the English language, I was hoping to be able to increase the capacity of my Italian in order to be able to conduct interviews, network effectively, and better comprehend Italian media. Sara refers to herself not a s a teacher but as a Neurolanguage Coach, and she was exactly what the term “coach” would imply. She was encouraging, strategic, creative in her efforts to tailor the instruction to my personal interests, and committed to successfully realizing the goals we set together. She brought great insight into the science of learning a language and was always available to answer questions or review work I had done on my own. Even while allowing me to set the course of study, she was prepared each week with a plan and several optional activities perfectly suited to my goals, hobbies, or favorite topics. The Neurolanguage Coaching format splits almost evenly between grammatical study and more conversational or experiential practice, a balance that I found very comfortable. The course design also emphasizes the importance of engaging with the language in topics relevant to one’s own personal life experience, which makes studying much more compelling. Sara's Neurolanguage approach is a well-structured program developed in accordance with how people actually learn languages, thus optimizing the time and effort that a student invests.

I was looking for a language coach because I felt I had taken platforms such as duolingo and italki as far as I could. I felt stuck and wanted to reach a higher level, not just of comprehension but of confidence. I also wanted a more tailored and personalized approach, and Sara was a fantastic coach in that regard. My experience with Sara was very positive and enjoyable. Sara was always accommodating with respect to my schedule and our sessions always had a targeted purpose. Through different mediums; conversation, reading, watching videos, traditional exercises and more, Sara was able to help me improve in the areas we were focused on. Sara's best quality however, might have been her ability to connect topics and content that I was passionate about to help drive the improvement in the language mechanics we were targeting. This element made it fun, rewarding, and also helped fuel my confidence and development. I would whole-heartedly recommend Sara to anyone looking to "be themselves in Italian"!

I have worked with Sara as an Italian Language and Cultural Coach. Her knowledge, dedication, enthusiasm and talent as a language coach is outstanding. Having worked with other language teachers in the past, I can say that Sara is at the top of her profession. She is extremely adept at tailoring language instruction for the level and interests of her students. Her approach is definitely student-centered and I came away from our time together with a greater understanding of Italian, Italy, and language learning in general. I recommend Sara without reservation and enthusiastically for anyone who is looking for a language and cultural coach!

    STEPHEN O'DONNELL

I had an opportunity to have Sara as my Italian Language Tutor and I would strongly recommend her to anyone who is considering using a tutor/coach. I have used other tutors in the past and Sara is easily to most energetic, knowledgeable, organized and committed instructor with whom I’ve had an opportunity to work. Her approach is flexible and tailored to the student’s needs. In addition to improving my Italian, I also have a better understand my mother tongue.

It was a pleasure to have Sara help me with my Italian language skills and with her guidance I was able to get the most out of my 3 week adventure to Italy. She is smart , disciplined an focused . If I got distracted she got me back on track while still having a great time learning.

Sara has a light in her eyes and a constant smile. She is a magician of gestures, because she ''can paint them across her face'', like the great Fellini and his characters. She wins you over with her dynamism and insight. She is really funny, and a pleasure to be around, thanks to her spontaneity. She is very animated and moves around the class a lot (a lot!), and flows within the classroom, like the currents of the Arno or Tiber rivers. She has the determination of the North and the warmth of the South. Her mastery and dexterity, merged with her words, make you discover the secret of the language of Dante.  Over the years, a sweet and vivid memory remains of Sara, leaving a permanent mark on our hearts, as teachers of visual arts. It was a fortune and a pleasure for us to learn the language and the Italian culture using her methods. Sara is the language coach we found in Nel mezzo del cammin di nostra vita... Grazie, Sara.
