I’m a Prospective Neurolanguage Coach so I have completed the Language Coaching Certification course but I am in the process of passing my assessment and becoming a certified Neurolanguage Coach.
About me
I’m Luca Toma, a Certified Neurolanguage Coach® specializing in Japanese. I lived abroad for almost 20 years, including 10 years in Japan, which shaped both my near-native command of the language and my understanding of how adults learn best—especially when progress slows down despite serious effort.
I have over 15 years of teaching experience and have taught Japanese (and Italian) in academic settings in Japan, the UK, Belgium, and Italy. Today I work mainly online through Japanese Coaching, supporting learners who want a clear direction, measurable progress, and a study system that fits real life.
Neurolanguage Coaching is the foundation of my sessions: we clarify your goals, reduce cognitive overload, work with attention and emotion, and remove the “invisible” blocks that often stop learners (confidence, consistency, anxiety, perfectionism, lack of structure). In recent years, my focus has increasingly shifted toward learner autonomy: I help clients plan their learning, build sustainable routines, and choose strategies aligned with their goals. Above all, I teach learners how to adapt existing materials or create personalized resources—often around topics they genuinely enjoy—using AI tools, so they can keep learning effectively between sessions and long after our work together ends.
Alongside coaching, I also work as a translator (Japanese/English/Spanish → Italian/English) and have been translating manga from Japanese to Italian for many years. I also teach shodō (Japanese calligraphy) as a certified instructor (Shihan).
PS: I offer coaching for Italian as a foreign language and English for Italians when relevant, while Japanese remains my main specialization.

My Testimonials and Reviews
As a non-native speaker of Japanese, I really appreciated Luca’s ability to anticipate the “typical traps” we run into. He understands where misunderstandings come from, explains them clearly, and helps you move forward without feeling judged or overwhelmed. — Anne Danlois (Belgium)
Working with Luca made a tangible difference: I didn’t just improve my Japanese and translation skills—I regained confidence I had completely lost. The sessions helped me reconnect with my motivation and rebuild a clear sense of direction in my study. — Irene Brizio (Italy)
Coaching with Luca felt truly personalized. We tailored each session to my learning style, needs, and interests, and that structure helped me finally study Japanese in a way that is effective and sustainable—less frustration, more progress. — Sarah (USA)
Luca’s feedback was both practical and reassuring. Since Japanese is the first foreign language I’ve seriously studied, I often lacked perspective on the learning process; he helped me refocus, set clearer goals, and understand what had worked so far—and what needed to change next. — Alex Evans (USA)
Before coaching, I could study grammar but struggled to build vocabulary and felt intimidated by authentic Japanese texts. Luca showed me how to approach real materials step by step, and I especially enjoyed translating my own thoughts into Japanese—something that became much easier with his guidance. — Matteo (Italy)
