In 2023, I set a goal to keep up my Japanese, specifically in Business Japanese I've lived in Japan for about 5 years and worked there for a few years while there. When I saw her profile on Linked In and met her for the first time, I felt nothing but positivity and encouragement right from the start. Her positive attitude and support really made a difference in our lessons. She always encourages you to learn and answers all your questions. In our first meeting, she took the time to listen to my goals in improving my business Japanese and improving in my confidence in using Japanese in a business setting and shared about this course with me. I was incredibly impressed by how detailed and well-designed this course and the materials were. As a visual learner I find her materials very easy to understand, organized, and well structured. She takes the time to go over vocabulary and uses real life examples to engage her students in not only memorizing but learning the material.
It is hard to study online, but with the motivation, the right teacher and resources you can learn as effectively as you can from an in-person classroom! When you work as a bilingual Japanese professional especially at the management level, you should be able to conduct all activities in business Japanese. Even though I was good at conversational Japanese. at times it was difficult to address the meetings or customer calls or business emails on the proper usage or selection of words in Japanese. Each meeting has different purpose to do. Some are just for information sharing, some are for solution explanation, some for convincing the audience to do what is required for us etc. For each of these different genres of communication you would need to have appropriate Japanese verbiage and format to be used else the purpose of the meeting/discussion will not be fruitful.
To conduct all these items in full business Japanese without compromising on the intent of the communication I was searching for a trainer who has relevant content that especially suiting my needs.
When you are on the quest of attaining better at anything you would need to utilize the
support of experts in that area. While searching for qualified teachers to attain the goal I came across Kazumi sansei profile in LinkedIn and reading through various recommendations and research and decided to have her as north star for continuing my business Japanese.
The nuances of usage of Keigo in various business contexts and selection of verbiages is the part that fascinates me. Role play adds confidence in reflecting what you have leant and corrections done then and there in the communication you make.

I spent about six years living in Japan and was able to fully immerse myself in the language and culture, However, I discovered that my exposure to "Business Japanese" was largely restricted to service jobs and lacked the daily immersion necessary to fully utilize and comprehend the nuances, grammar structures and vocabulary. My new, client-facing role at work required me to talk with stakeholders and upper
management both over the phone and during online meetings, and while I fortunately don’t run into a lot of issues communicating in conversational Japanese, having to do so in a professional setting (especially over the phone) was proving to be a huge challenge for me. It’s been almost 3 months and 12 sessions that I have attended with Kazumi sensei in Japanese business classes.
