My name is Bernadett Pista (34), and I have been a private English teacher since 2018 and a Neurolanguage Coach since February 2022. My journey to becoming an English teacher started back in 2006 when I moved to the UK as an au-pair and later worked in a factory along the assembly line. As I found myself staring at the clock, unwilling to move faster, and got told off by the manager for missing adding a tomato on the sandwich (yeah, that was my job), I decided that I could do more with my life. I signed up for a Cambridge Proficiency language course to learn English as I had basic English knowledge at the time. Here, some of the teachers were learning Hungarian as a second language because they were about to move to Hungary to take on teaching posts there, so when their Hungarian tutor got ill, they asked me to help out until they found someone new. I received plenty of positive feedback, and to be honest, I really enjoyed teaching, so I thought, “wow, I love this. Why not do it as a professional?”. As a result of this epiphany, in 2013, I applied and started my studies at the University of Wolverhampton. I graduated with BA(Hons) in Linguistics and Teaching of English for Speakers of Other Languages in June 2011 and with PGCE Teachers of Adult Literacy a year later. After graduation, I took up English teacher posts in the private and public school sectors. Apart from teaching, I always valued the importance of learning about different cultures, as at the end of the day, I was teaching students from other parts of the world. I traveled, lived, and taught English in Sri Lanka, the Canary Islands, Italy, and at my final destination (for now) in Hungary. As you can see, I have taught different nationalities and have always used English as a teaching language. In Hungary – where I am from – this is an unusual but gradually spreading method. I believe I don’t need to know my students’ language as the best way to learn a new language skill quickly and efficiently is to immerse in the language itself and its culture as much as possible. So to learn in an only English speaking environment – whether it is the country you live in or a course for 1 hour a day- is the best way to get the skills, grammar, vocabulary and most importantly the courage to speak. In 2017 I moved back home to Hungary and started my own private school called Living Room English Club, where sitting on bean bags, we learnt English in a fun and effective way. However, after the pandemic, the club became an online school, and I now teach online in a group or one-on-one sessions. In February 2022, I started learning a new teaching method called Neurolanguage Coaching and became an official NL coach in April 2022. With this method, I take English teaching to a new level and help my students to realize the blocks and triggers of their brain that keep them from learning a language smoothly, make them understand how they can learn, and while doing all that, I also teach them the language itself. If you got this far, thank you for reading and showing interest in my history. I promise I will enlighten you about the method, and brilliance of Neurolanguage Coaching if you decide to work with me.
